For sign makers and safety-material distributors, photoluminescent film for evacuation plans is a material choice that needs to match the printing process, artwork and project requirements. A successful sample must show a readable plan in normal lighting and the intended luminous areas after charging.
Which material should you ask for? In Xingyuan’s range, start with printable PVC for printed plan graphics and PET for cut lettering, arrows and slit strips. The standard film format is 1.24 m × 50 m, with custom sizes, shapes and die cutting available. Afterglow options include 4, 6, 8 and 10 hours; confirm the exact grade and its measured performance.
What does photoluminescent film do in an evacuation plan?
Photoluminescent film absorbs suitable light and releases a fading glow when its surroundings become dark. It can provide a luminous background or luminous graphic elements for a printed plan. It needs adequate light exposure before it can glow, so the lighting at the installation matters.
The film is supplied as a material for sign production. The finished plan also depends on its approved layout, printed details, mounting surface and required performance. Discuss the whole construction with the project team before ordering a production run.
PVC or PET: choose for the work you need to do
| Production task | Xingyuan option to discuss | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Print a floor plan, legend and text | Printable PVC photoluminescent film | Printer, ink system, fine-line detail and finished-sample afterglow |
| Cut letters, arrows or identification graphics | PET photoluminescent film | Artwork, smallest features, cutting process and transfer method |
| Order rolls, sheets or shaped pieces | Full-width material or custom converting | Dimensions, tolerances, liner format, quantity and packaging |
For a printed floor plan, begin with our printable PVC photoluminescent film and share your printer model and ink system. Ask about the exact grade before choosing UV, solvent, eco-solvent or another process. Compatibility is confirmed for the selected film and ink combination.
For cut graphics, share a vector outline, finished dimensions and the smallest letters or details. A trial cut helps confirm cutting and weeding on the chosen PET film. See the PET and PVC film basics guide for the wider material range.
How to prepare an evacuation-plan print sample
- Use the actual artwork. Supply the project-approved floor plan with its text, symbols, legend and required language versions. Keep text and fine lines available for inspection at the intended finished size.
- Confirm the printing setup. Provide the printer model, ink type and intended print side. Include any white ink, protective layer, laminate or clear cover in the proposed construction.
- Check the finished print. Inspect small text, line edges, color contrast and print adhesion. Ask how ink coverage and additional layers affect the areas intended to glow.
- Evaluate the complete assembly. Compare the printed sample after charging under agreed conditions, including the actual backing or cover where applicable. A photograph alone is not a luminance measurement.
- Keep an approved reference. Record the material grade, artwork revision, ink system, dimensions and acceptance criteria so the quotation and bulk order refer to the same specification.
Compare glow options using brightness data
A 4-, 6-, 8- or 10-hour description does not mean constant brightness throughout that period. Afterglow decreases with time, and its observed duration depends on the charging conditions and the endpoint used for the rating.
For a project quotation, ask for the charging light source, exposure conditions and luminance readings at stated times. For example, request 10-minute and 60-minute readings if they are relevant to your specification, with the units and test method. Request the documents for the exact grade being offered, then check whether they address the finished printed construction.
Material performance and plan design are separate parts of the specification. ISO 23601:2020 addresses the design of displayed escape and evacuation plans. Have the responsible project team confirm the applicable design and material requirements; a glow-duration label alone does not establish approval of a finished plan.
Roll sizes, custom cutting and packaging
The standard full-width format for this Xingyuan range is 1.24 m × 50 m, or 62 m² of gross roll area. Allow for print margins, layout spacing and waste when estimating the number of finished plans.
- Full rolls: for printers and converters who process the material in-house.
- Slit rolls and cut sizes: specify width, length, quantity and dimensional tolerances.
- Die-cut shapes: provide an outline and say whether pieces should be supplied individually or retained on a release liner.
- Packing: confirm roll or sheet counts, protective packing, labels and carton details in the quotation.

Review color and converted-material samples
Check both the normal-light appearance and the charged appearance when discussing colors. For a specific example, our 6-hour colored photoluminescent film is offered at 0.38 mm thickness in 1.24 m × 50 m rolls. Confirm the material and color combination against your project specification.

Frequently asked buying questions
Can I print a complete evacuation floor plan on the film?
Printable PVC options can be considered for floor-plan graphics. Send the artwork, printer and ink details so the selected material can be checked. Approve a printed sample at the required finished size.
Can PET film be used instead?
Xingyuan’s PET options are offered for cut lettering, slitting and shape conversion. For printed plans, start with the printable PVC range. Discuss any alternative printing requirement against a specific product grade.
Can I order custom sheets or shapes?
Yes. Custom slitting, cut sizes, shapes and die cutting are available. Send dimensions, quantities and an outline drawing where required; confirm tolerances and supply format in the quotation.
What are the price and minimum order quantity?
These depend on the selected material, afterglow option, size, quantity and conversion work. Ask for a quotation on a clearly stated basis, such as a roll, sheet or square metre, and include your delivery destination.
What should I send to get a quotation?
Send your application, product or material preference, afterglow requirement, roll or finished dimensions, quantity, printer and ink system, mounting surface, artwork and delivery country. Include any requested technical documents and sample requirements.
